Rene Russo is the daughter of Shirley Balocca who was a barmaid who worked in a manufacturing facility and Nino Russo. She was born on the 25th of July, 1970 in Burbank California. Rene's mechanic father left when Rene had turned two. The mother of Rene was the sole caretaker for Rene. Her father, an Italian of Italian-German-English-Irish descent was also her mother. At the age of junior high school Rene suffered from Scoliosis, and was required to wear a brace that covered her entire body. She was already a tall girl, which led to her being given the name Jolly Green Giant from her friends. The brace she wore was taken off when she started Burroughs High School, and even though her classmate Ron Howard joined her there also, Rene was somewhat of an outsider. Rene was unable to handle academics as well as the social aspect of high school. The school dropped her out of tenth. To make ends meet, Rene took a series of part time jobs for up to 18 months. Many were free. She sold refreshments at the movie theater, where she could see free films. She also worked as a dining hostess where her meals were free and worked as a store cashier at Disneyland which offered no cost admission. Sometimes she worked at two jobs. This was her final full-time job that was just in the interest of her paycheque.
